v1.4 februa ry 2005 data sheet AG2410 high per f ormanc e quad trun k 2.0 line interfacing the line i n te rface s o n th e ag241 0 p r ovide a flexi b le and rob u st i n terface to t he tele phon e line. t hey are desi gne d to meet regul atory stand ard s whilst providing a spa c e a nd power efficie n t solution. 2.1 d.c. termination. any equipm ent termin ating a tele ph one lin e mu st pre s ent the corre c t d.c. resi stan ce to the line. th is ensure s that the co rre ct curre n t flows to be able to detect the off hook con d ition, avoids e x cessive po wer dissipatio n in the subscrib er line inte rface (slic) a nd the subscri b er?s equip m e n t and minim i se s the si ze of power supply neede d to dri v e the slic. the ag24 1 0 has be e n desig ned to meet the requi rem ents of many net work o p e r ato r s. thi s i s do ne by makin g th e d.c. charact e risti c adj ust able. the s e are controlled by con n e c ting th e dm pin s o n the line sid e of the circuit. table 1 sho w s how the s e a r e con n e c ted. table 1 set up of the dm pins m a r k e t d m a d m b north america (eia 464, resistive) connect together through 270k resistor europe (ctr21) connect together through 470k resistor far east connect together through 270k resistor 2.2 signalling and loop status. the ag24 10 provide s fa cil i ties to monit o r an d co ntrol the telephon e line. this allows the de vice to be used with a vari ety of loop signall i ng sch e me s and mini mise s the num ber of externa l com pon ent s ne ede d t o impleme n t a compl e te line interface. 2.2.1 the on-board loop s w itch the ag 241 0 impleme n ts t he lo op sta r t protocol wh en initiating and answeri ng a call. this means that a swit ch mu st be cl osed to allow lo op curre n t to flow, sign alling to the slic that the terminating equipm e n t has go ne ?of f -hoo k?. thi s h a s be en done hi stori c ally by a relay. the ag241 0 use s an i n tegral o p tically isolate d swit ch to d o thi s , eliminating th e ne ed fo r a n external relay , so spa c e a n d co st is save d for the user. the on-b oard lo op s w itch is controlle d by th e ls c pin. a logic 1 applied to the pin clo s e s the loop switch. this is d one whe n the terminating eq ui pment wi she s to begin a call or in re spo n se to th e rece ption of t he ringin g si gnal . the lsc pin can be controlle d by the output drive pins of a cod e c o r from a micro controll er device. once the lo op switch h a s bee n clo s ed confi r mati on that loop current is flowi n g is provided by the lc pi n. this can be use d for fault detectio n an d for call cl e a r detectio n . 2.2.2 ringing detection and sensitivit y . the te rmin al equipm ent m u st b e ca pab le of dete c tin g and re sp ondi ng to an in co ming call in t he sam e way as a telepho ne set. the termination circuitry m u st, therefo r e, det ect the prese n ce of the rin g ing si gnal. the ag241 0 provide s an output, rs, whi c h indi cat e s the pre s e n ce of ringing by switching fro m a logic 1 t o logic 0. th e rs outp u t wil l toggle at twi c e th e ri ngin g freque ncy. a cap a cito r to grou nd can a l so b e add ed if ringin g cade nce i s ne ed ed rath er th an the rin g i ng freque ncy. the se nsitivity to ringing is set internally to 20vrms. 2.2.3 reversal detect the ringi ng detect ci rcuit will also detect dc pol arity reversal at ti p/ring. since this is a c cou p led o n ly a pulse output (15ms min.) is given at the rs output at the instant of reversal. an example of this type of signalling is i n caller line id in the unite d kingd om, wh ere a battery pol arity reversal p r e c ede s the tran smissio n of d a ta before the ringin g sig nal is applie d to the line. there m u st be g r e a ter th an 3 0 v a c ro ss tip an d ring for reversal detect to functi on co rrectl y. this mea n s that there is n o detectio n when off-ho ok. 3.0 the 2-4 wire (hy b rid) conversion. each circuit on the ag 2410 modul e tran smits and receives bala n ce d 2-wire a nalog sign als at the tip an d ring con n e c tions. the s e are conve r ted to a gro u n d referen c ed output at v ou t a nd from a gro u nd referen c ed si gnal at v in . v ou t and v in are n o rm ally con n e c ted to a co de c (vi a d.c. blo cki ng cap a cito rs) fo r co nversio n to and fro m a pulse code modulate d (p cm) stre am. 3.1 transmit and receive gain. the gain in b o th the transmit and re cei v e directio ns is set at 0db. any gain adj ustment s ca n be made u s i ng the code c fu nction ality. t h is is eithe r by hard w are or softwa r e de p endin g upon t he co de c used. ? silver tele com 20 05 page 4
